Submissions and Penn State University Gig Update

Posted in Uncategorized on April 3rd, 2010 by admin

Submitted the fantasy novella collaboration with Brian A. Woods tonight (again, special thanks to all of our beta readers for their kind words, keen insights, and blurb-worthy comments). Other recent submissions were also made to Tales of the Unanticipated and Necrotic Tissue.

And here’s the latest update on TWO WIVES AND A DEAD GUY being performed at Penn State University:

“Parts have been cast and rehearsals have begun for the Drama Club’s spring production to be performed April 16 through the 18.

Three one act plays will be performed including Two Wives and a Dead Guy, the Airport Play, and Gorgons.

Don’t miss your chance to see one of these wonderful performances.”

And there we go.

DEAD GUY at Penn State University

Posted in Uncategorized on March 12th, 2010 by admin

“TWO WIVES AND A DEAD GUY is a farce, with roles for two women (the wives) and three men (the corpse, the funeral home director, and the lawyer). The play is about…well, read the title again” — Auditions notice, Penn State University Drama Club, 2/27/10.

I’ll check to see exactly when later on today…

By the numbers this is the play’s 41st production, my 11th of my career in Pennsylvania, and my 660th known production overall.

Roy C. Booth Visioncon 2010 Reading/Interview

Posted in Uncategorized on February 7th, 2010 by admin

Filmed Sunday, January 24 at Visioncon 2010, Springfield, MO.

Catch all four parts of Cynthia and myself on YouTube doing brief readings of our work, discussing playwrighting/theatre in general, the Visioncon experience, and much more. (By this time in the con my voice is incredibly ragged, so my apologies if it is hard to understand me at times.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QiQxQdcyzo

Also includes readings from TWO WIVES AND A DEAD GUY (www.samuelfrench), a short chapter excerpt from the horror novella “Oh, Baby” (by Rachael Saltzman and myself), commentary on the soon-to-be published kaiju comedy RODRIGO GETS THE POST MODERN BLUES (www.hitplays.com), a plug for PAIRING ENERGY (w/. Mitch Berntson, www.originalworksonline.com), why the Bemidji Chamber of Commerce should put me on salary, and more!

Again, special thanks to David Stanfield and the Visioncon staff and crew for flying Cynthia and myself down to their fantastic convention, it was a BLAST.

DEAD GUY in Wyong

Posted in Uncategorized on August 30th, 2009 by admin

Two Wives and a Dead Guy (http://www.samuelfrench.com/store/product_info.php/products_id/6395) was performed by the Romulus Players at the Central Coast Theatre Fest in Wyong, New South Wales, Australia, June 5 - 7 of this year. I believe this is a continuation festival production by the same group from Maintland, which would make sense.

This then would make for the 4th production of the play in Australia, and its 37th production overall.

Cynthia, of course, is thrilled that our play continues to do so well abroad.

DEAD GUY in Maitland, New South Wales

Posted in Uncategorized on July 20th, 2009 by admin

TWO WIVES AND A DEAD GUY (www.samuelfrench.com), was produced by the Maitland Repertory Company in Maitland, New South Wales, Australia in June.

That’s the second time the play has been produced in Australia, and it’s 36th time overall.

Here’s a humorous article about the play from the Maitland Mercury:

As always, Roy and Cynthia thank you all for your support!

DEAD GUY in Ireland Production Mystery Solved!

Posted in Uncategorized on July 11th, 2009 by admin

One of the things that drives me nuts whenever I/we get an overseas royalty check statement from Samuel French is that they may state the country the play was produced in, but not any of the other neat details, like by whom, exactly where, and when.

Cynthia and I are proud to announce, that as part of a three part one-act bill, TWO WIVES AND A DEAD GUY was produced by the Athenry Drama Group of Athenry, Ireland (County Galway) at the Hotel Athenry, April 29 and 30 of this year. The cost of admission was 10 Euros.

And here’s some irony for you: one of the other plays on the bill was THE VALIANT, the play I directed for my directing class final back in 1988 (winter quarter) at Bemidji State University. Cynthia was also part of the production crew for that play as well.

DEAD GUY in Ireland

Posted in Uncategorized on June 26th, 2009 by roy

Samuel French has informed Cynthia and myself that our comedy TWO WIVES AND A DEAD GUY (www.samuelfrench.com) was recently performed in Ireland.

The play has now been produced 35 times in seven countries (Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, France, India, Ireland, Philippines, and the USA).

Play submissions tip: the bulk of play submissions usually occurs in the fall since quite a few new plays make their debut in late spring/summer (summer stock, college playwrighting/directing classes, fringe festivals, etc.), so if you wish to avoid being stuck in the slush pile any longer than you have to… (Always check the submission guidelines first — some companies read/accept scripts only during certain months.)
